The Audubon Society of Jackson County, Michigan
Join the Tuesday Morning Group for a hike along the "Hoffman Trail", a wonderful woodland habitat between Moeckel and Riethmiller Roads
The “Hoffman Trail,” is the unofficial name for the flat nature trail with one end at Moeckel Road in the Waterloo Recreation Area. Six of the seven woodpeckers native to Michigan nest along this wooded end of trail, which looks like much like a pre-settlement landscape.
We'll walk toward the Riethmiller wetland in search of Virginia Rail. The trail has a wet portion at this time, so wear waterproof boots to above your ankle.
Meet at the west trailhead at 9 a.m. From Jackson, take I-94 east to Mt. Hope Road, north on Mt. Hope 4.7 miles to Hoffman Road, east on Hoffman a quarter mile to Moeckel Road, and north on Moeckel 700 feet to the trail (42.359759, -84.204271). This is the parking lot on the east/right side of the road past Hoffman. Do not use the west/left side parking lot near Hoffman intersection. Hoffman and Moeckel are gravel roads.
