WELCOME to the Phyllis Haehnle Sanctuary (pronounced hane-lee). Hosting a wildlife spectacle: the annual gathering of Sandhill Cranes prior to migration. With a panoramic view of the Mud Lake Marsh surrounded by the fall colors of trees, few wildlife wonders can rival the sight of several thousand cranes flocking to this sanctuary on a late October afternoon.
Nest Box Monitor Needed
We are in need of a temporary nest box monitor for our Blue bird boxes this spring. This volunteer opportunity consists of visiting Haehnle Sanctuary about once per week or so and check on the progress of nesting birds. Contact Steve Jerant at jacksonaudubon@gmail.com for more information.
The 2025 Crane count is ENDED for the year.
We closed out with a 12-year record of 4,455 cranes roosting in Mud Lake Marsh.
JAS supports Michigan Audubons' Opposition to crane hunting in Michigan
The Jackson Audubon Society Board supports the stance MA has made in opposition to establishing the Sandhill Crane as a game species and allow hunting in Michigan. See MA's statement and how you can make your voice heard to oppose this proposed legislation.
