Haehnle Sanctuary Crane Count 11/17/2025 By Don Henise

Sandhill Cranes roosting in Mud Lake Marsh at Haehnle Sanctuary continue to increase in number. This Monday we counted 1875 cranes flying into roost for the night. The majority flew in just before sunset with some long lines of cranes spreading across the sky. The weather was chilly but not as cold as the previous week with light winds and temps in the upper 30s to low 40s.

Only 22 bird species were observed during the count with waterfowl making up a large portion of those. The full eBird checklist is linked below.
