The Audubon Society of Jackson County, Michigan
Join us for a visit to the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology bird skins collection.
REGISTRATION IS CLOSED for this event.
In this context, “skins” is museum-speak for the skin and feathers of birds. Our guide will be the collections manager, Brett W. Benz, Ph.D. He will provide a tour of the facility and then spend about 90 minutes with us on the collection. The collection has 176,000 specimens, about two-thirds of the world’s species, is the sixth largest in North America, and includes extinct species like the ivory-billed woodpecker. This event will be limited to 15 people and registration is required. A carpool will leave from Jackson area at 9:30 AM. To register, please email jacksonaudubon@gmail.com or respond to the invitation email by 09/10. Advise your COVID-19 vaccination status and if you are able to drive. This is a UofM facility so there will be a parking fee.
